Beginners Guide

Welcome to TeamSUP

Below is a quick guide to our beginner sessions and other useful information.

If you are interested in paddling with your family head over to Family / Juniors page.

Hello and welcome you are in very safe hands. We pride ourselves on having been there for 1000s of people’s first strokes on the water. All our coaches and instructors are experienced RLSS Open water lifeguards and British Canoe Instructors. We specialise in delivering safe, educational, fun and inspiring sessions.

Our sessions are never one size fits all - we work with our paddlers to understand how their bodies move, any limitations, restrictions and develop an individual paddling strategy.

SESSION DESCRIPTIONS AND LINKS

OPTION 1 : INTRODUCTION

Beginners Introduction: For those that have never been on a paddleboard before. This is a great taster of what paddle boarding is all about and will help you make decisions about where your paddling journey may take you.

OPTION 2 : LEARN THE BASICS

Couch to 5 km - 4 Week Workshop : For those that have either never been on a paddleboard before or have perhaps tried before but would like to learn more. Our 4 week workshop is designed to take you from Land to Lake with all the knowledge, skills, techniques and practice time to enjoy this SUP season. You will graduate with a 5km Paddle on a session of your choosing after the course finishes (Included in the price).

NEXT, COMPLETE THE FOLLOWING

Beginner Friendly Adventure: Our absolute favourite thing to do is explore. These are a great way to spend time paddling at your pace enjoying good company and new waterways.

Progression: Start to learn what makes an efficient stroke. Here we start to really tailor your stroke making your paddling straighter, faster and less demanding on your body (several sessions recommended). We do one hour, two hour and four week courses

Splash : You’ve got to get wetter to get better. Learn to move around on your board and self rescue. A fun session that makes you safer and more confident on your board.

Intro to River Workshop : Start to get to grips with how to safely paddle on more difficult water conditions.

Thursday Morning Adventure: Come and explore some new waters and build distance at a pace that suits you.

Wellbeing Tootle and Pootle: This is your time to enjoy the water, your own way at your own pace. There is no pressure to go far or fast. Just float and enjoy the scenery if you like! We normally go for a drink and a chat after these sessions too.

SUP Yoga (April - September): Float your body and mind into a calm relaxed place. Using a series of yoga poses we will build strength and flexibility, improve balance and core stability and find our moment of peace and stillness out on the water.

Pure Paddle : Self guided session to practice what you have learnt. An instructor will be in the vicinity but not giving tuition.
